Recent Huntsville Happenings

This blog features just a sampling of the happenings at ERC in Huntsville:

Relay for Life Cookout at HQ:

To help raise money for the 3 Relay for Life events that are taking place in our community, our all-volunteer committee organized a cookout at Headquarters. The cookout was a great success with more than $3,000 raised.  Additionally, some of the employees on our CDP contract made a generous donation in memory of Larry Schroeder, former ERC employee that lost his battle with cancer recently.  You’ll see in the pictures below, the weather was great and we fed lots of folks!

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month

In an effort to raise awareness for child abuse awareness month, pinwheels were placed out front of the ERC HQ building.  Each pinwheel represents a child that has suffered abuse.  ERC has been a long-time supporter of the National Children’s Advocacy Center.  They do amazing work to help children and families that have dealt with child abuse and provide training and education for professionals in all sectors.

Harris Home for Children

ERC is proud to support the Harris Home for Children:  a safe haven for children in the foster care system.  To support the important work they do, ERC was a sponsor of an evening to celebrate their 63rd Anniversary, featuring dinner and a performance from Kool & the Gang – oh what a night!!   The Harris Home thanked ERC by presenting a special gift to Kenny.

Habitat for Humanity – Madison County

A group of volunteers from ERC and Aerie came together to help make a new home for a needy family in Huntsville.  We turned the dusty, weedy lot into a lovely yard, then moved to another home to help finish putting up the exterior walls.  We worked hard, got dirty and sweaty, but left feeling proud to have just a small touch on our community.
