Team JCARES4EVER Captured First Place at Relay for Life, Titusville, FL by raising $7,526 in First Year of Participation!
Kudos to all nine ERC Employees who participated on the JCARES4EVER Relay for Life Team! Out of the 24 teams that participated and raised $29,848 as of June 13 to help the American Cancer Society fight against cancer, Team JCARES4EVER came in first place!
The JCARES4EVER team, which totaled 20 walkers (including the nine ERC Employees), held many fundraising activities in March and April, and raised a grand total of $7,526.
The relay was held Saturday, May 3, starting at 12 noon at the Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, and continued non-stop until 6 a.m. Sunday, May 4. The weather during the event didn’t seem to want to cooperate, with intermittent rain and bone chilling wind, but the rain and wind could not quell the enthusiasm and determination amongst our dedicated ERC volunteers.
Team JCARES4EVER had someone on the track walking at all times during the 18-hour event (even during the height of the wind and rain). This is even more impressive since this was our first year participating.
In addition, the Luminaria tribute was very inspiring, with hundreds of paper bags “lit” – each in honor of a survivor or someone who was touched by the death of a loved one. At approximately 9:30 p.m., all participants braved the rain to walk two laps in silence to remember loved ones lost to cancer and to honor those battling the disease.
As Team Captain (and an ERC Employee), I was honored and proud to be a part of this worthwhile cause. The American Cancer Society strives to help stamp out cancer and at the same time works very hard supporting those who struggle with this disease.
Last, but not least, a BIG shout-out goes to ERC Corporate. ERC, not only sponsored “Track Markers” to help underwrite the cost of the event, but in addition to that they sponsored the Luminary program and matched $1,000 of ERC employee’s contributions.
The dedication and commitment shown during this event truly shows the spirit of ERC and its “Family Volunteer” Organization.
